Heartworm Testing
Heartworm Testing
Heartworms are a parasite transmitted by mosquitoes. Heartworm disease is extremely common in the south. We recommend testing once a year to make sure your pet is free of this disease and staying on preventative medication year round.
If your pet is not currently on heartworm prevention, they must have a blood test performed. If the test is negative, then your pet can be started on a monthly or biyearly heartworm preventative. In the south it is recommended to keep your pet on heartworm prevention year-round.
